Cy Giacomin was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. After studying composition at Dalhousie and McGill Universities, he relocated to his wife's hometown of Sarnia, Ontario, where they co-founded the Bluewater Chamber Choir and have directed several local choirs. In Halifax, Cy was Composer-in-Residence with VOX: A Choir for Social Change for their 2016/2017 season.
Cy's music has been performed across North America and Europe, and has been featured on CBC Radio 2's "Choral Concert". In February 2018, his latest composition, negen, was premiered by Pro Coro Canada and Flûte Alors! recorder quartet. In May 2016, The Centenarian was premiered by the National Youth Choir of Canada, commissioned and conducted by Michael Zaugg. He has also completed commissions from various groups including VOX: A Choir for Social Change, Hamilton Children's Choir, and Toronto's That Choir.
Cy spends most of his time composing, arranging, and conducting choral music. He also teaches private lessons, and performs as Music Director of various community theatre productions. Cy and his wife, Rachel, sing with the Canadian Chamber Choir, and they currently live near Lake Huron with their two dogs, Cooper & Louie.
