Composer Cy Giacomin was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. After studying composition at Dalhousie and McGill Universities, he relocated to his wife's hometown of Sarnia, Ontario, where they co-founded the Bluewater Chamber Choir. In Halifax, Cy was Composer-in-Residence with VOX: A Choir for Social Change for their 2016/2017 season. He currently shares his time between Sarnia, Halifax, and Edmonton.
Cy's music has been performed across North America and Europe, and is occasionally featured on CBC Radio 2's "Choral Concert". His latest composition, the boy in outer space, was premiered by VOX on May 6th, 2017. In May of 2016, The Centenarian was premiered by the National Youth Choir of Canada, commissioned and conducted by Michael Zaugg. He has completed commissions from Pro Coro Canada, Hamilton Children's Choir, That Choir, among others.
Cy spends most of his time composing, arranging, or conducting choral music. He also teaches private lessons, and occasionally performs as Music Director with various community theatre groups. Cy and his wife, Rachel, are both members of the Canadian Chamber Choir. They currently live near Lake Huron with their two dogs, Cooper & Louie.
